Emily Irene VanCamp, who originally wanted to be a professional dancer, became interested in the acting field when she hung out with her sibling Katie at the Ladies Room set. Her career in acting began when she started taking classes. She also got guest spots on shows from her homeland of Canada. Some of the TV series she starred in include Do You scared of the Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp achieved a major breakthrough in his career after being cast in Glory Days, the WB Mystery Horror show. While receiving praise from the critics, the series' low ratings unfortunately caused it to be canceled after only nine episodes. In spite of her May 12th, 1986 birthday she was offered the role of Everwood in its cast as Amy Abbott. She was a finalist to win the award for four Teen Choice Awards and a Young Artist Award.
